THE ISLAND
Margarita Island’s climate varies as the terrain changes from valleys, hills to mountains. The vegetation varies from dry to humid forests respectively from the base of the mountains to the summit. Here the clouds release humidity accumulated from the Caribbean Sea and one can find ferns, bromelias and palm trees. The island is cooled by the constant winds throughout the year and is thus suitable for year round sailing and surfing. The capital is La Asuncion but the main city is Porlamar. The airport is located near El Yaque beach, the latter being the best beach in the world for kite surfing.
PLAYA EL AGUA
Playa El Agua is the most popular beach on Margarita Island with 3km of fine sand, an abundance of palm trees, restaurants, bars and kiosks. Many beach side establishments provide sun lounges and deckchairs, beach service and showers. One can even find a local market and beach vendors selling ice-cream, drinks, massages and fresh oysters (a dozen for a dollar!). The beach is used and loved by young and old alike, families with children, couples and singles. Strolling through the beach proves to be a pleasant and refreshing experience.
